Andrea Calpe is a committed researcher and education professional at the University of Les Illes Balears (Spain). Andrea has more than 3 years of experience in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at different levels and conducting psycholinguistic researches on the field of first and second language acquisition. She is currently pursuing a PhD on language attrition and ultimate attainment at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) since 2022. She alternates her PhD studies with teaching Spanish language and culture at the International Center for Spanish Studies in Palma de Mallorca. Her research interests focus on Second Language Acquisition from a cross-linguistic perspective, with special interest in the acquisition of linguistic features. In her studies she also explores the phenomenon of L1 attrition in immersion contexts and its relation with L2 acquisition. Another area of interest in her studies is the characterization of heritage speakers from closely related languages.
Her thesis belongs to the Language Acquisition and Ultimate Attainment (LAUA) project directed by Pedro Guijarro. The project was awarded in 2022 by the Ministry of Science and Innovation as well as the State Investigation Agency (PID2021-122127NB-100).
